Somali and The Forest Spirit 11 – Those Who Protect and those Who Threaten

I put this episode off for as along as I possibly could. I knew I was going to feel so many things while watching episode eleven [mainly pissed but you know that’s just a surface level emotion]. Now that the season is wrapping up and I take the time to think about all of the previous episodes one word comes to the forefront of mind. Prejudice.

Prejudice.

Prejudice means that someone has a preconceived opinion that isn’t based on reason or actual experience.

This series deals with a lot of prejudice among species and the effects from it. The humans were scared of a species that didn’t look like them. Humans called them ‘grotesques’ and killed them without any rhyme or reason. Because of this, this other species retailiated by killing, selling and eating the humans until their population dwindled to almost exstinct. Thus began a war. Now this species lives holds prejudices in their hearts against all humans.

We see the effects of this prejudice as we follow Somali and Golems journey.

It was so hard to watch this episode play out. Even though my predictions I made when the series started did come to fruition I didn’t exactly enjoy watching.

Yabashira is such a kind and gentle Oni. He was the only one in the room who didn’t know about Somali when shit was about to go down but he still fought for the cause. Still everyone seems to be in bad shape. really bad shape.

Shizuno wasn’t as strong as I originally thought he was [ it’s episode eleven and I’m just now figuring out he’s a man]. Golems body just up and gave up on him. He’s dying before our eyes and there’s no one to help Somali for a good five minutes in anime time.

Aunt Rosa is a cruel heatless bitch. Not because of her prejudice because believe it or not I can understand that logic. What I can’t understand is how she can bluntly inform a child how she’s going to have her henchmen kill her. Why? What purpose does that serve you’re already on the winning team [for right now].

We are left on the biggest cliff hanger of the season. Will Golem be able to fight? Will Somali get away? Can Yabashira make it in time?

Until Next Time
