Here I am once again, feeling lost but now and then, I read manga to let go. . . Welcome to volume four of the mini manga update series. If you didn’t place that italic sentences it’s from Nickelodeon’s Victorious. The post has been a long time coming. Admittedly it’s taking me a while to find stories I felt like I would genuinely like. That’s not to say I’ll love everything I’ve read in this volume (I don’t) but I’m not the type of person to read things I know I won’t like for the sake of trashing it in a post. I’m happy I’ve found a few manga to write about. Good, bad or ugly but just to get it out the way I’ll start with the ugly.
Title: Monster and the Beast Vol. 01, 02
Story & Art: Renji
Rated: Older Teen
When I say ugly I not referring to Cavo the “beast”. The reason why I air quoted beast is that Cavo is the sweetest, most naive soul I’ve ever laid my eyes on. The ugly is Liam, the handsome forty-something-year-old gentleman. His personality is so disgusting. His treatment of Cavo is emotionally abusive. While I would like to fully hate him I can’t help but admire his honesty just a little. He has no qualms in admitting that he’s a crappy person. He’s mean to Cavo than cajoles him afterward.
Bedsides the nastiness that is Liam I’ve found Renji (the artist/writer) can weave a damn good story. Despite my dislike of Liam I kept reading. The story is just getting started but I can already tell that this is going to be good. So far there have been hints toward where the plot is going but I can’t make anything out yet. For once I have no guesses I’m completely clueless as to what will happen next. I have to admit I kind of like it here.
Title: My Androgynous Boyfriend Vol. 01, 02
Story & Art: Tamekou
I just loved this. I loved everything about this. I honestly don’t have one complaint. Wako and Meguru are adorable. This is honestly a wholesome manga. I love how this manga normalizes androgynous people. It’s nice to read something that just is. I didn’t have to try to decipher anything or keep up with the plot. I’m really starting to see the appeal to the slice of life genre. That’s it. I have nothing left to say. I would highly recommend this series to anyone. I’m so glad I took a chance on it. I’ve been smiling since.
Title: Komomo Confiserie Vol. 01, 02
Story & Art: Maki Minami
I didn’t know what to expect. Manga synopsis really never go into depth. I found myself loving every character. I like that Komomo isn’t the typical used to be rich girl. She understand that her privilege afforded her a lot. She also understands everything she lacked while having that life style. I enjoy seeing Komomo discover new things about her self and her new place in the world. Natsu is interesting. I’d swear he has feelings for Komomo. It seems heavily implied that he has a few secrets.
Right now I’m really just genuinely enjoying everything that I read. I don’t know if it’s because it’s new year but I feel so refreshed. So optimistic about this blog and just life in general.
